Multi-tiered Positive Behavior Supports

Encouraged

Multi-tiered Positive Behavior Supports are encouraged by law in Michigan. In other words, the implementation of school-wide positive behavioral supports or tiered frameworks in Michigan school districts is encouraged, but not required.

Michigan Compiled Laws 388.1631

This statute declares that in order to receive certain funding, all grades K through 12 must receive a multi-tiered system of supports that is an evidence-based framework and that uses data-driven problem solving to integrate academic and behavioral instruction. It must also provide:

• Interventions,
• team-based leadership,
• selection and implementation of instruction, interventions, and supports,
• a comprehensive screening and assessment system,
• and continuous data-based decision-making.
